White House Crypto Summit, Bitcoin ETF Inflows, and Senate Bill Delay Shape Markets

Bitcoin held near $64,000 on August 19 as traders braced for a pivotal day on two policy fronts. The Federal Reserve's July meeting minutes were due at 2 p.m. ET, while a White House meeting with executives from Coinbase, Ripple, and Kraken was drawing close attention from market participants watching for signals on the administration's crypto posture.

Softer U.S. inflation data has yet to produce a decisive recovery for digital assets, with the broader crypto market capitalization ticking up just 0.5% to $2.29 trillion and total trading volume sitting at $45.6 billion. Bitcoin's dominance held at 56.5% while Ethereum struggled to establish a firm foothold above $1,900 and XRP continued to defend the $1 level.

ETF Inflows Return as Smaller Fund Shuts Down

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $189 million in net inflows on August 18, according to data cited by WuBlockchain and reported by The Cryptonomist, a sign that institutional appetite for regulated crypto exposure remains intact. Analysts note that single-session inflows of this size typically reflect allocation decisions by asset managers and wealth platforms rather than retail activity. BlackRock's IBIT has continued to capture the lion's share of flows, pulling in $693 million of the $853.54 million that entered U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs in the strongest inflow week since April.

Not every product is thriving, however. Hashdex's DEFI spot Bitcoin ETF stopped trading on NYSE Arca on August 17 after running into persistent low assets under management and thin liquidity, illustrating how the market's capital is consolidating around a handful of large, liquid vehicles even as smaller or more niche products find it harder to stay commercially viable. Meanwhile, the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act remains stalled after the Senate fell short of the 60 votes needed to advance it before the August recess, mustering only around 51 votes, with a first possible new vote falling no earlier than September 15.
