Bitcoin Slides Below $79K as ETF Inflows and Corporate Buying Persist
Bitcoin opened Tuesday under pressure, weighed down by geopolitical tension and hawkish Federal Reserve expectations. Bitcoin opened at $79,093.85 on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, down 1.6% from Monday's open. The price fell 1.55% to $78,564.71 in 24 hours, slipping below $79,000 as strong U.S. jobs data and higher Treasury yields increased pressure on risk assets. Short-term whales are holding about $9.07 billion in unrealized profits, while leveraged long liquidations added to selling pressure, and Bitcoin was rejected near the $80,500 resistance level.
The global crypto market capitalization stood at $2.76 trillion, down 1.1% over 24 hours, with total trading volume reaching $73.8 billion. Bitcoin's dominance in the industry remains strong at 57.7%, while Ethereum holds 11%. Ethereum opened at $2,489.84 today, down 1% from Monday's opening price.
Spot ETF Demand Remains a Bright Spot
Despite the price pullback, institutional demand through exchange-traded funds continued to provide a floor. Spot BTC ETF products pulled in close to $1 billion over the past week, part of a $3.8 billion three-week run, the strongest stretch of 2026 so far, with BlackRock's IBIT fund leading that demand and pushing total ETF assets above $100 billion. The steady accumulation signals that large funds are buying into weakness even as retail sentiment turns cautious.
French company Capital B bought 376 Bitcoin for $29 million, lifting its public treasury to 3,521 Bitcoin. Ethereum fared relatively better, ending Monday at $2,491, as attention turned to the Hegotá upgrade and its two priority proposals, FOCIL and Frame Transactions. The dual forces of corporate accumulation and protocol development are giving long-term holders reasons to look past short-term macro headwinds.
