Bitcoin Slides on Iran Fears, Fed Odds, and a Packed September Calendar

Bitcoin fell roughly 1.5% on Wednesday morning as two converging pressures hit risk assets simultaneously. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's hawkish remarks at Jackson Hole have traders pricing in a roughly 70% probability of a rate hike at the September 15-16 FOMC meeting, while escalating Middle East hostilities drove Brent crude higher and deepened global inflation fears. Bitcoin slipped to $76,988 early Wednesday, down 1.6% over 24 hours, with a trading volume of approximately $29.93B and a market cap near $1.55T.

The broader crypto market cap fell 1.4% on the day, though the Crypto Fear and Greed Index held in Greed territory at 63. Stablecoins remained a relative haven, with the stablecoin market cap ticking up 0.1% to $289.9B, as traders rotated out of volatile assets ahead of what analysts are calling the most event-dense month of the year.

A Calendar Packed With Market-Moving Events

Traders are heading into a packed September with a $797M Hyperliquid token unlock, a Federal Reserve rate decision, and an Ethereum test network fork all landing within the same three-week stretch. The Bureau of Labor Statistics will publish the August CPI print on September 11, the last inflation reading before the Fed's next move, followed five days later by the FOMC meeting on September 15-16, with the rate decision due at 2:00 PM ET alongside the Summary of Economic Projections. A soft CPI print followed by a dovish Fed tone would typically ease pressure on risk assets, while a hot inflation number ahead of the meeting could do the opposite.

On the altcoin side, the Bitwise Solana ETF crossed $1B in assets under management, a milestone that arrived as SOL held above $100. Analysts are watching the $110 level, with a clean break there potentially sending prices significantly higher before year end. Ethereum, Solana, and XRP are all attracting strong capital flows, raising the possibility of a broader altcoin rally if macro conditions cooperate heading into the back half of September.
