Bitcoin ETF Outflows Pressure Prices as Coinbase Sounds Quantum Alarm and Circle Posts $1.4B

Bitcoin traded near $81,558 on Saturday as a week of heavy institutional selling kept prices pinned below key resistance levels. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $409.2 million in total outflows between October 12 and 16, 2026, despite attracting $180.8 million in inflows during the same period. That week's outflows marked a roughly 50% improvement compared with the prior week, when Bitcoin ETFs recorded $818.8 million in total outflows between October 5 and 9, though withdrawals still signal that institutional demand remains weak.

The broader crypto market fell 0.93% over the past 24 hours to $2.74 trillion, and the Fear and Greed Index dropped to 49, down from 57 the prior week, reflecting neutral sentiment. Rising U.S.-Iran tensions, Brent crude near $106 a barrel, and 10-year Treasury yields at 5.25% added further market pressure, while traders watch the $80,000 support level for signs of a potential breakdown.

Coinbase Urges Multiyear Quantum Security Overhaul for Bitcoin

In a separate development that rattled the security community, Coinbase called for a multiyear Bitcoin quantum resistance plan, urging Bitcoin developers to begin preparing for a transition toward post-quantum cryptography before existing digital signatures become vulnerable to practical attacks. The recommendations include Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 360, quantum-resistant signatures, improved custody infrastructure, and migration strategies for older Bitcoin holdings.

Coinbase's quantum advisory board estimated that approximately 6.9 million BTC had potentially exposed public-key information, although this does not mean those holdings have been compromised. Bitcoin does not face an imminent quantum-computing emergency, but Coinbase believes waiting for one would be a dangerous mistake, as consensus changes and wallet migrations often require years of planning across the entire network.

On the stablecoin front, Circle Internet Group delivered a notable disclosure that underscored the growing commercial scale of its USDC business. Circle reported approximately $1.4 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026, paying $819 million to USDC distribution partners and transaction costs while reinvesting about $473 million in infrastructure, compliance, and product development. The company said it retained roughly 7 cents in net profit for every dollar of revenue.

USDC processed more than $36 trillion in onchain transaction volume and accounted for about 77% of global stablecoin transaction volume in June, up from 60% a year earlier. Circle is scheduled to report third-quarter earnings on November 4.
