Robinhood Buys Bitcoin, CFTC Acts on Crypto Rules, and ETF Inflows Surge
Robinhood added $25 million worth of bitcoin to its corporate balance sheet on Wednesday, deepening the trading platform's push into digital assets. The move signals growing conviction among fintech firms that holding bitcoin directly alongside core business operations is a credible treasury strategy, following a broader trend set by Strategy and other corporate adopters.
On the regulatory front, CFTC Chairman Mike Selig told CNBC he was disappointed Congress failed to pass the CLARITY Act after the bill stalled in a Senate procedural vote in September. Rather than wait for lawmakers, the agency published an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeking public comment on two new frameworks: Regulation Crypto Asset Transactions and Regulation Crypto Asset Markets. The proposed three-tier system would leave ordinary spot exchanges under state money transmission laws, bring leveraged and financed crypto trading under CFTC oversight, and keep derivatives platforms within the agency's existing jurisdiction.
Bitcoin ETF Flows Hit Second-Largest Monthly Total Since October 2025
Institutional demand for spot bitcoin ETFs showed no sign of cooling in September. U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs recorded $2.65 billion in net inflows last month, their second-largest monthly haul since October 2025, according to SoSoValue data reported by The Block. Spot ether ETFs also pulled in $832 million over the same period, though that figure trailed August's $1.85 billion.
Dominick John, analyst at Zeus Research, said the sustained ETF inflows suggest institutional demand has not faded and point to a more sustained recovery. With cumulative net inflows since launch now totaling $57.6 billion and net ETF assets sitting at $108.4 billion, analysts say the funds are on pace to exceed annual inflow records set in both 2024 and 2025. Traders are watching the October 8 jobless claims report as the next key economic signal that could influence near-term bitcoin price direction.
