Hut 8 Expands Beyond Bitcoin Mining into Artificial Intelligence with Anthropic Partnership
Hut 8 Corp has announced a significant partnership with AI developer Anthropic and compute provider Fluidstack to build hyperscale data center infrastructure across the United States. This collaboration positions the company, traditionally known for its roots in Bitcoin mining, as a key player in powering advanced artificial intelligence operations. The agreement focuses on delivering substantial compute capacity to support Anthropic's ongoing model development efforts.
Asher Genoot, CEO of Hut 8, emphasized the central role of energy in scaling AI systems. He noted that the company's approach prioritizes power acquisition and site development to meet the demands of leading AI firms. Shares of Hut 8 rose sharply in pre-market trading following the news, reflecting investor interest in the firm's diversification beyond crypto mining.

Partnership Details and Expansion Plans
The initial phase of the project centers on Hut 8's River Bend campus in Louisiana, where the partners plan to develop 245 megawatts of IT capacity backed by 330 megawatts of utility power.
This site will serve as the launch point, with new capacity targeted for delivery by early 2027. The partnership includes options for further growth, such as a right of first offer for up to 1,000 additional megawatts at River Bend if power supplies expand. Beyond that location, the companies may explore joint development of up to 1,050 megawatts across Hut 8's broader pipeline of sites.
Fluidstack will operate the high-performance compute clusters essential for Anthropic's large language models, building on their existing relationship. James Bradbury, Head of Compute at Anthropic, described the deal as an extension of prior work that enables faster scaling of infrastructure. Gary Wu, co-founder and CEO of Fluidstack, highlighted the focus on solving complex compute needs for frontier AI labs.
Hut 8's infrastructure often features modular designs that allow seamless transitions between Bitcoin mining hardware and GPU-based AI setups with minimal changes. This flexibility supports dynamic allocation of power resources while drawing on the company's established expertise in energy management and data center operations. The model has proven effective in balancing diverse compute-intensive workloads.

The separation allowed Hut 8 to sharpen its emphasis on broader digital infrastructure, including high-performance computing.
This new AI-focused agreement underscores Hut 8's evolving strategy in energy-intensive sectors. By securing long-term commitments for large-scale capacity, the company aims to capitalize on growing demand for reliable power and facilities in both cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence fields. The collaboration integrates specialized roles across power sourcing, site design, and compute deployment to address industry bottlenecks.
As AI applications continue to advance, partnerships like this highlight the critical overlay of energy infrastructure and cutting-edge technology. Hut 8's entry into this space builds on its operational strengths while opening pathways to sustained growth in a rapidly expanding market. The project's phased approach provides a structured path toward gigawatt-scale deployment in the coming years.
